I´m very sorry to hear about the passing of Hu Jie. She was an inspiration for me for the past few years. In the face of all the difficulties in life, she decided to press on and enjoy life to the fullest. Every posting of her new song, poem, the display of her culinary skills and photos of her grand children made me reflect on how one should live one´s life. "You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing you think you cannot do." - Eleanor Roosevelt. She did it. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

Dear Uncle Tong and Eric, it is with heartfelt sadness that we write to say how deeply shocked and very sorry we are to hear of Auntie Jie´s sudden passing. We pray her soul is at rest and that her legacy will live on through you, Maddie and Sophie, and through us. We are so inspired to read her story. She overcame immeasurable hardships and challenges in her life, living through very dramatic changes in history and being a vanguard in her own right to be that first wave of mainland Chinese intellectuals and scientists to contribute to the world. It is never easy being a woman in a man´s world, a foreigner in a country you did not grow up in, and she was able to bridge and thrive in the spaces between these worlds.
We pray for healing and love to permeate this very difficult time for you all. And we hope we will be there to support you in any way. I know Auntie Jie would want nothing more than to see her two most loved persons live well and let love dwell in your hearts going forward.
With our love,
Anne, Drew, Noah and Isaac

Dear Penger,
I am so sorry to hear the passing of Jie. She has been one of the closest friends for Mingui and I for so many years. Please accept our deepest condolences to you and your family!
I always remember her bright smile and her encouraging words that she gave to me when I faced my own cancer diagnosis 10 years ago. We lost an excellent scientist, a loving mother and grandmother, and a great wife. Jie had a great and successfully life both in career and family. We will miss her!
Please take care!
Yingze

To Jie´s family,
I knew Jie since she was a student at Pitt. She was so excited when her first granddaughter was born! Her memory will live on in her family, colleagues, friends, and the many students and trainees she mentored. Rest In Peace, Jie, you gave it a great, graceful and courageous battle. You will be missed.
