James N. Arvanetes, 96, a longtime Hyde Park resident, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 30, 2022.
Born April 17, 1926, in Manhattan, he was the son of Nicholas and Malama Endekas Arvanetes.
He attended Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church in Poughkeepsie and was a former member of the Order of Ahepa, Poughkeepsie Chapter #158.
He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II.
On June 11, 1958, in Hyde Park, he married the former Marie C. DuPilka.
Jim and his brothers owned and operated the former Arvan's Brothers Office Equipment Company in Poughkeepsie. After moving to Hyde Park, he developed Arvan's Mobile Court on Fallkill Road. He owned and operated the mobile home community along with his wife, Marie, for many years until his retirement. His wife survives in the park he built.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his daughter, Dawn M. Harris, of Ocala, FL; son, Nicholas J. Arvanetes, of Hyde Park; two grandsons, Andrew J. Harris and wife, Shannon, of Rhinebeck and Austin M. Harris and wife, Chelsea, of Hyde Park; great-grandson, Jaxson Cole Harris; and great-granddaughter, Penelope Austin Harris.
He is also survived by his sister, Georgia Muccio, of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
Calling hours will be from 4 - 7 PM, Thursday, June 2nd at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park
Funeral services will be at 10 AM, Friday, June 3rd at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 Grand Ave., Poughkeepsie. Rev. Fr. Jason Dickey will officiate.
Entombment will follow in the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
