Jimmie Greer Jr., a respected veteran and cherished member of the community, passed away on November 17, 2025, in Durham, North Carolina, at the age of 70. Born on July 30, 1955, in Hazzard County, Kentucky, Jimmie was the beloved son of Jimmie Greer Sr. and Maxine Greer, whom preceded him in death, and a caring brother to Gregory and Daniel Lee Greer, who have also preceded him in death. Left behind to cherish Jimmie's memory is his brother, Jeffery Greer and his sister Marlene Javis.
Jimmie lived a life marked by service and dedication. He proudly served his country as a bugler in the United States Marine Corps, where his discipline and commitment were recognized with accolades such as the National Defense Service Medal, the Sharpshooter Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal. His time in the military was a defining period of his life, and the values of the Corps were deeply ingrained in his character.
After his honorable discharge, Jimmie continued to serve his community as a skilled service mechanic, a trade where his attention to detail and thoughtful nature made him a favorite among those who knew him. His work was not just a job but a continuation of his service ethos, always ensuring that those who relied on him were met with reliability and a friendly demeanor.
Jimmie was known for his kindness and amiable personality. Those who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him often spoke of his thoughtfulness and the genuine interest he took in the lives of others. His ability to make friends was unparalleled, and he maintained countless friendships that were as steadfast as his loyalty to the Marine Corps.
Jimmie's interests remained closely tied to his military roots, and he often spent time engaged in activities and associations that honored his service and that of his fellow veterans. He was a man who lived by the core values of honor, courage, and commitment, and his life was a testament to these principles.
Jimmie Greer Jr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, friendship, and thoughtful service to others will continue to inspire those he left behind. As we bid farewell to Jimmie, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of honor and marked by the positive impact he made on the world around him.
