Jimmie Lee West, a cherished family man, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, in Garland, TX, at the age of 82. Born on January 31, 1943, in Claremore, OK, Jimmie was the son of the late Lee B. and Roberta B. (Phillips) West. His unflinching dedication and loyalty to his children and grandchildren is something to aspire to.
He had a keen, disarming, and often beautifully twisted sense of humor that flew over the heads of many. To those he let into his spectacular world he was known as a master joke teller.
He was a man of few words, so when he spoke of serious topics, he commanded respect and attention. He was an observer. His superpower was having conversational knowledge on almost any topic. His stance was always well thought out, poignant, and direct. These characteristics made him fascinating.
Time spent with his children and grandchildren was sprinkled with laughter as his subtle, comforting presence left those he loved feeling safe and protected.
Jimmie's life was a testament to unwavering dedication to family and country. After serving honorably in the U.S. Army, he embarked on a career as a driver in the transportation industry, where he was known for his reliability and friendly demeanor. Throughout decades of work, legend has it he only missed half a day after a dirt bike accident separated his shoulder.
At home, Jimmie was a comedian and resounding force of strength for his family, a role he embraced, always available for those he loved. He is survived by his devoted son, Robert West and wife Darla; loving daughter, Laurie West; and adoring grandchildren, Colby, Scott, and Oliver West. Each of them carries forward his legacy of love, kindness, strength of family, and empathy.
Jimmie was a registered member of the Cherokee Nation. Both his parents were orphans. His father was Native America and his mother a red headed European immigrant. As the eldest son, he was expected to work and take care of his family from a young age.
Jimmie had a knack for fixing anything that was broken and loved watching Cowboys games with his son, Robert, who was named after his own brother. Nothing brought him more peace and happiness than spending time with his kids and grandkids. He made sure everyone had their favorite treats when they visited, always prepared with a joke cocked and loaded that he probably heard on "The Ticket."
Jimmie's life was complicated, difficult, full of hard work and sacrifice, but no one would ever hear a single complaint from him. He came from a generation who accepted hard work, family responsibility, and sacrifice as part of life.
