Jimmy Elwood Caldwell
(The Frito Lay Man)
Jimmy Elwood Caldwell, 92, of Marysville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at the Kobacker House in Columbus on Friday, December 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Elwood was born on August 14, 1932, in Webbville, Kentucky, to Dock Junior Caldwell and Dovie "Dova" Kitchen. In 1953, he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Hughes, a southern girl from Memphis, Tennessee, in what he called "love at first sight." The couple married on June 4, 1954, and shared a devoted partnership that lasted over 70 years.
Elwood proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1950-1953, when he was honorably discharged. Upon returning home, he spent nine years delivering milk for Med-O-Pure Dairy. He retired in 1992 after 24 years of dedicated service at Frito Lay. Fondly known as "The Frito Lay Man," Elwood became a beloved figure throughout Union County.
In their retirement, Elwood and Mary Ann explored the country in their RV, spending many joyful years as Florida snowbirds. A passionate car enthusiast, Elwood owned a rare 1958 Ford Retractable and spent two decades as a proud member of the Ford Retractable Club, winning numerous trophies at various car shows throughout Ohio.
Elwood was a true jack of all trades who enjoyed attending swap meets in search of antique car parts, gardening, and meticulously maintaining his yard with a Farmall bush hog, Wheel Horse, or in later years, his cherished John Deere. He found joy in NASCAR, Elvis Presley's music, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. Elwood was a man of faith who lived a simple, honest life, and in 2022, he was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Marysville.
Elwood is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Caldwell; his daughter Cathy Mulkey (Lynn); and his grandchildren, Alicia Hindman (Andy), and Evan Mulkey; his brother Robert (Theresa) Caldwell and sister Kay (George) Whitt.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Dock Junior and Dova Caldwell; son Jeffrey Caldwell; grandson Jeremy Mulkey; brothers Dock Jr., Ova, Jack, Hysel, and Homer; sisters Lova Caldwell, Vesta Lee Caldwell, and Patty Lingrel; and in-laws Elma Sewell and Cecil Hughes.
Visitation will be 4-6 pm Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Ingram & Snyder Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville, where funeral services will take place 11 am Thursday with Pastor Larry McDonald Officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, where the Union County Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
Elwood will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, kindness, and simple living will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
Ingram & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve Elwood's family, and condolences may be expressed to them at www.IngramFuneralService.com.

I worked at Frito-Lay in Springfield for 32 years and i knew Elwood as good, honest man. He was always fun to be around when he came to our district meetings. Elwood always said what was on his mind, and never pulled any punches. Glad to see he lived a long life. My condolences to his family. Rest in Peace Elwood.
