Jimmy Carraway

James Ward Carraway "Jimmy", age 80 went to his heavenly home on October 13, 2024. Jimmy was the oldest of nine children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton and Ola Mae Carroway; brothers, Archie Carroway and Johnny Carroway and his brother-in-law, Johnny Toler. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Raynor Carraway of Dunn, NC; his children, Kim Carraway Hatsell (John) of Mount Olive, NC, and Jay Carraway of Stella, NC; grandchildren, Garrett Hatsell (Cassidy) of Clinton, NC, Wyatt Hatsell of Mount Olive, NC, Brooke and Trey Carraway of Wilmington, NC; stepchildren, Billy Reid Jackson (Patty), Ollen Glenn Jackson (Christy), and Robin Jackson (Kim); seven step grandchildren, and seven step great-children; siblings, Dalton Carroway Jr (Eleanor) Windsor, VA, Judy Odom (Joel) of Stella, NC, Janie Toler of Maysville, NC, Harry Carroway, Sr.(Brenda) of Richlands, NC, Larry Carroway of Maysville, NC, and Edie Eubanks (Ronnie) of Sanford, NC and his sister in law, Marie Carroway of Swansboro, NC.
Jimmy was born in Williamston, Martin County NC. He graduated from White Oak High School in 1962. He was employed at First Citizens Bank at Camp Lejeune, then New Bern Oil Mill in Belgrade and retired as a Boiler Plant Operator with civil service at Camp Lejeune. He served with the United States Army Reserve for four years. Jimmy was an avid fisherman and hunter throughout his life and a proud gun collector. He was a huge Tarheel basketball fan who proudly wore his Carolina sweatshirt and cap. Jimmy's love for his dachshunds, Nemo and Buddy was apparent as he rode them around in the community to show them off.
Flowers are welcome or donations can be made in memory of Jimmy Carraway to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The family would like to thank the staff of The Heritage of Richlands and Gentiva Hospice of Swansboro for their loving care given to Jimmy.
A graveside service will be held Friday October 18, 2024 at 2 pm at Dogwood Memorial Cemetery in Maysville, NC with his brother Pastor Harry Carroway, Sr. officiating.
