Jimmy Scott Dorsey, 70, of Spartanburg, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Scott was born on April 14, 1955, in Spartanburg, a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Thelma Beatrice Wyatt Dorsey.
Scott retired after 48 years of faithful and dedicated service in the greater Spartanburg community as a firefighter and EMT. The last 30 years of his long career were spent with the Westview-Fairforest Fire Department. He had previously served with the Una, Hilltop, Whitney and North Spartanburg Fire Departments.
Scott was a member and deacon at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Along with his firefighting hobbies, he enjoyed woodworking and carpentry. He was known as a man who could “fix” anything broken. He attended Spartanburg Technical College and received certification in HVAC Repair.
Surviving is his loving wife of over 48 years, Elizabeth “Beth” Pettit Dorsey; a son, Nicholas Scott Dorsey (Courtney); 5 grandchildren, Autumn, Taylor, Gavin, Logan and Savannah; two brothers, Ronald C. Dorsey (Joyce) and Elijah Thomas Dorsey (the late Brenda Dorsey); a brother-in-law, Randy Pettit (Judy); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday, September 5, 2025, at Floyd’s Boiling Springs Chapel, 4161 Highway 9 North, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. A funeral service to honor Scott’s life and career will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church, 3600 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316, conducted by the Rev. David Turner and the Rev. Dr. Randy Pettit. Burial, with firefighter honors, will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Dorsey, Todd Dorsey, Brian Dorsey, Hunter Dorsey, Holden Dorsey and Chip Pettit.
All fire service personnel are invited to attend as Honorary Escorts.
In lieu of flowers, memorial s may be made to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Seniors Ministry, 635 Mount Pleasant Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307
