Jimmy Roul Moultrie, 79, of
Fitzgerald, Georgia, passed away on September 28, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, to James and Mollie Darby Moultrie, Jimmy lived a full and purposeful life. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was also a proud member of the Chi Psi Fraternity.
After graduation, he began a long and successful career, working as an Industrial Engineer for U.S. Plywood in Atlanta, then with Champion Papers in Oxford, Mississippi, and Atlanta, Georgia. When he came to Fitzgerald he served as the Personnel and Business Manager of Modern Fibers/Shaw Industries and later as a VALIC Financial Advisor. He seemed to know everyone in town and across the state as a result of the relationships he formed in those roles. In retirement, he enjoyed his work as a docent at Fitzgerald's Blue & Gray Museum and at the Fitzgerald Municipal Airport. He was grateful to the pilots at the Municipal Airport for helping him learn to fly and allowing him to enjoy the thrill of the skies.
A man of deep faith, Jimmy was a devoted member of the Catholic Church. He served faithfully as a Eucharistic Minister and shared his musical gifts as the Church Organist at St. Williams Catholic Church for many years. He continued his service at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church. In recognition of his dedication and service to the Diocese of Savannah, he was honored with the prestigious Bishop Francis X. Gartland Recognition of Service Award.
Jimmy was a positive parent in the community, receiving recognition from the Georgia Department of Education and Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals. He was an avid supporter of the Fitzgerald Marching Canes while each of his four children participated, and he served as Booster Club President. Jimmy dedicated himself to service to children through the Kiwanis Club, where he was a member and also served as President. He stepped into leadership roles with a humble attitude of service and integrity.
Jimmy was known for his love of fishing, his fascination with computers, his joy in gathering with friends for meals and fellowship, or a night of bridge. He was a life-long learner and reader, history and culture enthusiast, and spinner of long stories. His friends likely got an ear-full as he drove them to many medical appointments around the state. Jimmy was his family's personal paparazzo. He also had a playful spirit, delighting in pranks and dad jokes that brought laughter to those around him.
Above all, Jimmy cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary Close Moultrie; his children, Michelle Moultrie Denison, David (Becky) Moultrie, Lisa (SuMin Yi) Moultrie, and Elizabeth (Reid) Pratt; his grandchildren Trey Denison, Andrew Pratt, Sarah Moultrie, Katie Denison, Samuel (Shelby) Moultrie, Alec Denison, Anne Moultrie, Abigail Pratt, and Nick Moultrie; his great-granddaughter, Cecilia Moultrie; and his steadfast companion, Cookie. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Mollie Darby Moultrie and his sister Sherry Birger.
Jimmy's legacy of faith, service, music, laughter, and family will live on in the lives of those he touched. He will be remembered with love, gratitude, and joy.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 10 AM, Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church in Tifton, Georgia.
