Dee was born February 10, 1966, in McAlester to Jimmy Shipley and Myra (Conn). He graduated from McAlester High School and went on to attend and graduate from East Central University in Ada. Dee began his career with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, where he faithfully served as a correctional officer and moving up through the ranks to deputy warden. He retired after 35 years of dedicated service. For the past three years, Dee had been employed with T.J. Inspection as a welding inspector in the oil and gas industry.
On August 9, 2018, Dee married the love of his life, Kelly (Towler) Shipley. Their relationship was deeply rooted in love, friendship, and a bond that only strengthened with time. Dee loved spending time outdoors-hunting, fishing, and shooting-and he had a passion for history, especially watching historical documentaries. Dee enjoyed sharing his life experiences and the wisdom he gained from them, always teaching others along the way. He was also an enthusiastic sports fan and proudly followed the University of Oklahoma Sooners.
Dee was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Shipley, and his stepfather, Charles Sanders, Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Myra Sanders; his wife, Kelly Shipley; his son, Zachary Shipley; his daughters, Grace Shipley and Kylee Pitchford; step-children, A.J. Tabb and Alexis Smith; and three grandchildren, Ayden Shipley, Raelyn Pitchford and Henley Pitchford. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Sanders, Jr. and wife, Tonya; his sister, Lana Sanders; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Linda Towler; grandmother-in-law, Nathalie Towler; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Dee was the best to everyone who knew him. Beneath his strong and rugged exterior was a heart of gold. He loved fully, deeply, and without hesitation. His presence made life brighter for those around him. He will be missed beyond measure, but his love and legacy will never be forgotten.
