Services for Jo Ann Overton, 90, who passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Westhaven Community in Boone, IA, will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 22, at Overton Funeral Home 501 West Ashland Avenue Indianola, IA 50125, with burial following in the Des Moines Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines, IA.

Jo Ann was born to Howard and Mildred (Finney) Polson on July 30,1935. She was a proud 1953 graduate of Des Moines East High School. She married the love of her life, Donald G Overton, in 1953. Together they had three children, Mark, Cindy and Jeff. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Jo Ann and Don lived on the East side of Des Moines before moving to Indianola in 1978. Jo Ann was a homemaker her entire life, working as needed as she raised her family. She worked part-time at Bates Chiropractic Clinic while in Des Moines and later worked in the cafeteria at Simpson College in Indianola, enjoying the students as they passed through.

Jo Ann enjoyed retirement with Don as they became snowbirds to McAllen, TX. Together they lead the Texan Mobile Home Park Association where they organized music and events for the residents. They loved making new friends.

Jo Ann was a believer in Jesus Christ and spent many years serving in church and working in youth ministries within the church. She was a member of Grace Church, where she served with family and friends for many years. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jo Ann is survived by her sons, Mark Overton, Jeff (Michele) Overton, 9 grandchildren: Kristy (Matt) Ryan, Justin (Sara) Overton, Nicole Clay, Tanner (Katelyn) Overton, Camron (Kirsten) Overton, Kellan (Christina) Overton, Cole Overton, Zachary and Joshua Bittinger. 16 great-grandchildren: Jaymin Sutton, Mabel Overton, Katelyn Ryan, Colin Ryan, Logan Ryan, Calvin Overton, Lillee Overton, Austin Clay, Avery Overton, Kenna Overton, Landon Overton, Blakely Overton, Everly Overton, Maeva Overton, Hudson Overton, Louie Overton. Sister, Judy Kier, her nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Mildred Polson, her husband of 68 years Donald Overton, daughter Cynthia Bittinger, and sister, Joyce Bright.

The family will greet friends prior to services from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Overton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family, who will designate an appropriate memorial at a later date.

The family would like to express appreciation to the staff at Westhaven Community for the compassionate and loving care Jo Ann received.
