Joan L. Alfred, 80, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on June 16, 2025, just one day after celebrating her 80th birthday. Born on June 15, 1945, in Illinois, Joan lived a full and vibrant life devoted to her family, her profession, and her many passions.

Joan graduated from Indiana University in 1967 with a degree in Nursing. She went on to dedicate her life to caring for others as a compassionate and skilled nurse until her retirement. Beyond her career, Joan was an avid world traveler who found joy in exploring new places, snow skiing, and especially dancing—her greatest passion. She also loved attending concerts, plays, and live performances, and cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren.

Joan is survived by her children: Lance Wiseman and his wife Amanda; Mark Wiseman; Brian Wiseman; and Leah Magnett (Wiseman) and her husband Brian. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Chase, Tyler, and Alexia Wiseman; Lyndsey, Cassidy, and Taylor Wiseman; and Ashton, Audrey, and Austin Magnett.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Frances and Dale Alfred, and her brother, David Alfred.

A funeral service honoring Joan’s life will be held on June 25, 2025, at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home beginning at 10:00 a.m., family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will follow to Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL.

Joan’s adventurous spirit, generous heart, and deep love for her family will be forever remembered and deeply missed.

Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
