Joan M. Andresen

Joan Marie (Sobolowski) Andresen, born on March 12, 1945, passed away on December 3, 2024, surrounded by the love and care of her four beloved daughters. Affectionately known as Joanie, she was born in Tampa, FL, the cherished daughter of Mary (Okolita) Koenig and George Sobolowski. Joan spent her early years in Springfield, MA, where she graduated from Springfield Technical High School in 1963, earning the title of Miss Congeniality during her senior year. She later settled in West Springfield, MA, where she raised her family and took immense pride in her home.
Joan is survived and deeply missed by her loving daughters: Kathy Wesniak of Palmer, MA; Lisa Morley of Mansfield, MA; Kara Andresen of Taos, NM; and Heather Andresen of Longmeadow, MA. She also leaves behind her brother, David Sobolowski of The Villages, FL; sons-in-law Michael Morley, Blair Stoltzfus, and Kevin Collins; nephews Stefan Sobolowski and Eric Sobol; niece Jessica Sobolowski-Quinn; and many Okolita cousins. Forever cherished by her six adored grandchildren-Joseph Wesniak Jr., Ryan and Lauren Morley, Ada Stoltzfus, and Alexandra and Anastasia Collins-Joan's memory will also live on through her best friend of 60 years, Liz Landry, her "fifth daughter," Christine Hoffmann, and many beloved friends, neighbors, and former coworkers.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Mary (Okolita) Koenig and George Sobolowski; her brothers, Gary Sobol and Mark Sobolowski; and her sister, Gail Sobolowski.
Joan's work ethic was unparalleled. Early in life, she worked in the restaurant industry, spending many years as a food server at the historic Yankee Pedlar Inn in Holyoke. Later, she transitioned to a successful career in insurance, serving as a Personal Lines Account Manager at Hub International New England. She retired in 2020 after decades of dedicated service. Joan was beloved by her customers, forming meaningful relationships that went far beyond her professional responsibilities.
In addition to her career, Joan had remarkable talents as a master seamstress and craftsperson. From sewing her daughters' clothes during their childhoods to creating and selling beautiful crafts at countless craft shows, her creative spirit brought joy to many. Her greatest joy, however, was sharing her love of arts and crafts with her grandchildren. She often found materials for her projects while delighting in yard sales and antique shows.
Joan had a special connection to the ocean. Her love for the sea included summers on Cape Cod with her children, visiting Florida beaches with her mother and siblings, cruising the Caribbean, and enjoying local beaches with her grandchildren. She also had a passion for travel, and early on, she lived in Germany for a year, traveled extensively throughout Europe then gave birth to her eldest daughter before returning to the US. She later returned to Europe, visited New Mexico several times, and was a frequent visitor to Florida.
One of Joan's favorite escapes was her time spent at her camper, where she found peace and rejuvenation. She developed innumerable special friendships with fellow campers and often was the sparkle of the party.
The Christmas season held a special place in Joan's heart. She loved holiday crafts, hosting Christmas celebrations, and creating magical holiday memories for her children and grandchildren.
Joan's enduring legacy reminds us of her immense strength in the face of challenge, her deep care for others, and the boundless love she gave and inspired.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional nurses and doctors who cared for Joan during her courageous journey with kidney disease.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday January 4, at 10:30AM at the Toomey O'Brien Funeral Home 1043 Westfield St West Springfield with a calling hour from 9:30-10:30AM.
