Joan A. Baer, age 85, of Massillon, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Akron General Hospital. She was born in Canton, Ohio, on June 17, 1940, to the late George E. and Mary Olive (Slutz) Rice and remained a lifelong resident of the Stark County community.
Joan was a faithful and active member of Saint Peter’s Catholic Church. Her life was devoted to her family, and she found her greatest joy in her role as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Lou Frank and a niece Kathy Frank.
She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 64 years, Warren Baer; her children, Thomas (Sue) Baer, Kristine (David) Antenuci, Susan Wertz, and Deaun (George) Paydock; ten cherished grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her sister, Janet (Dale) Snider.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, 720 Cleveland Avenue NW, Canton, Ohio 44702, with Father David Misbrener serving as celebrant. Interment will follow at Melscheimer Cemetery.
