Joan Alice Bourque, a devoted wife, beloved mother, treasured MeMaw, dear sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on August 7, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Joan was the daughter of Harold Sr. and Margaret Stringer. From the moment she entered the world, Joan brought joy, warmth, and compassion into the lives of all who knew her.

A woman of unwavering strength and deep devotion, Joan lived a life defined by love and service. She was the heart of her family, always placing the needs of others above her own, and facing life’s challenges with grace, courage, and quiet dignity. Her kindness and generosity were evident in every aspect of her life, and her legacy of love will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Joan dedicated over three decades of her life to the children and staff of D’Iberville Elementary School, where she worked in the cafeteria for 31 years. She found great joy in nurturing others, whether through a warm meal, a kind word, or a gentle smile. Outside of her work, Joan found happiness in gardening, cooking, volunteering, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

She is survived by her two devoted sons: Louis Bourque, Jr. (Rachelle) of Biloxi, MS, and Lyle Bourque (Tanya) of D’Iberville, MS. Joan was a proud and loving MeMaw to Josh Bourque and Trey Bourque of Biloxi, MS, and Margaret “Maggie” Bourque of D’Iberville, MS. She was also a cherished Great MeMaw to Alex Bourque and Cohen Bourque.

Joan is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis Bourque, Sr., her parents Harold Sr. and Margaret Stringer, and her brother Harold Stringer, Jr.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in D’Iberville, MS, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Biloxi National Cemetery, where Joan will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Louis Bourque, Sr.

Joan Alice Bourque’s life was a testament to love, faith, and family. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
