Joan Guthrie Brown, 97, of Black Mountain, gained her wings on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, and joined her husband, Bill, in Heaven. She is now dancing in the sky. Her last words were "God is with you to the very end."
Joan was born on August 9, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Frederick and Effie Guthrie. She was a pillar of the Black Mountain and Swannanoa Valley where she served in many different capacities. Joan touched countless lives and will be greatly missed by all.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Marilyn B. Booth (William R. Booth Jr.), Carilyn G. Brown, and William Thomas Brown Jr.; brother, Dr. Fred F. Guthrie Jr. (Shirley A. Guthrie); grandchildren, Joshua William Ratcliff (Sarah Noel Ratcliff), Ashley B. Coolbroth (Dana L. Coolbroth), and Laurence William Brown; great grandchildren, William K. Ratcliff, Thomas W. Ratcliff, Ingrid E. Ratcliff, and Faye J. Coolbroth.
Joan will be interred with her husband, Bill, at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
