Joan Burke

August 16, 1956 – August 13, 2025

Joan Burke, age 68 of Monroe, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

Born on August 16, 1956, in Monroe, Joan was one of three daughters of the late Tilmon and Ruth (Jones) Braden. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1975 and went on to earn her Associate of Applied Science Degree for the Respiratory Therapy Program from Monroe County Community College.

Joan dedicated more than 30 years of her career as a Respiratory Therapist, serving in multiple healthcare facilities in the Downriver area and in Panama City, Florida, before retiring in 2010. She cherished her years in Florida but returned home to Michigan to be near her family and to welcome the arrival of her beloved grandchildren.

In her free time, Joan enjoyed trips to Mackinac Island and visiting casinos to play slot machines. She was a devoted Counting Crows fan and loved attending their concerts. She also found joy in crocheting, playing Bingo, and caring for her two yorkies, Bailey and Brandy, who rarely left her side. Joan will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Angela Burke and Kristie Burke; grandchildren, Jayda Saul, Grace Haddox, and Avery Haddox; nieces and nephews, Kellie Osborne, Keith Keister, and Cory Keister; and great-niece and great-nephew, Dylan Osborne and Sydney Stefko.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her sisters, Joyce Weipert and Beverly Keister; and by her brothers-in-law, Michael Weipert and Clarence William Keister Jr.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at a later date in her honor. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home. Online condolences may be shared at www.ruppfuneralhomeinc.com.
