Joan C. Harmon, age 77, of
Flemingsburg, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home.
Her parents were the late Carl Fleming Carpenter and the late Anna Marie Coffey Carpenter, who chose the name Joan Marie for their first daughter born April 13, 1947. It was a long wait after seven sons prior to her grand arrival.
Joan was the bookkeeper at Total Care Pharmacy for 45 plus years, where she retired in 2020. She was a member of Saint Charles of Borromeo Catholic Church in Flemingsburg. She enjoyed landscaping, especially her flower beds and gardening. She was quite crafty in her home projects, loved shopping, spending time with her family, and spoiling her grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her husband of 59 years, Earl D. Harmon; her daughter, Jennifer Kirkland; her son, Greg Harmon; and her two grandchildren, Bryant Harmon and Hannah Kirkland. In addition she is survived by six of her siblings, Terry (Theresa) Carpenter, Gerald Carpenter, Tommy Carpenter, Donnie (Brenda) Carpenter, George (Tami) Carpenter, and Mary (Ed) Varnell. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Carolyn Carpenter, Ruth Ann Harmon, Phyllis Harmon, and Brenda Harmon.
Joan is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, especially her goddaughter, Sandra "Grace II", who was with her through thick and thin along with her siblings, Mary and T&T. Joan is also survived by her friend for life at Pioneer Trace, Denise Christy; and very special caregivers and friends, Barb Gregory and Sally Hamilton.
In addition to her mother Anna Marie and her father Carl, Joan was preceded in death by her in-laws, Hansel "Roundhead" Harmon and Willa Mae Harmon; four of her siblings, Paul Carpenter, Robert "Bubby" Carpenter, Ronnie Carpenter, and Kathy Cooper; three of her sisters-in-law, Phyllis Carpenter, Connie Carpenter, and Linda "Mousy" Harmon; four of her brothers-in-law, Eugene Harmon, James Harmon, Reverend Billy Harmon, and Jackie "Goose" Harmon. She was also preceded in death by two of her nephews, Dickie Welsh and Jeff Carpenter, plus her son-in-law, John Paul Kirkland.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Fr. Phil DeVous as celebrant.
Joan will be laid to rest in Fleming County Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Chris Blythe, John Carpenter, Mike Carpenter, Kevin Cooper, Andrew Carpenter, Patrick Carpenter, Shay Carpenter, and Isaac Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers include Gary Wientjes, Heather Fronk, Kyle Harmon, and the staff of Total Care Pharmacy.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, March 24, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Vigil Prayers for the Deceased at 4:45 p.m.
