Joan Delores Hysmith, a beloved figure in the community, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, in Nashville, TN, at the age of 81. Born on December 6, 1943, in Bells, TN, Joan was a cherished daughter of the town who spent her life spreading warmth and kindness to everyone she encountered.
Joan was a proud graduate of Bells High School, class of 1961, where she began to cultivate her love for design and creativity. This passion ultimately led her to establish Joan Hysmith Designs, where she dedicated many years to transforming spaces with her exceptional taste in beautiful furniture and fabrics. Her innate talent for making homes inviting reflected her generous spirit and creative flair, earning her the admiration and friendship of many.
As a faithful member of the Walnut Hill Baptist Church, Joan's life was marked by her deep-rooted faith and commitment to her community. She was not only a friend but a source of inspiration to countless individuals, known for her kind and welcoming nature.
Joan took immense pride in her role as a mother and grandmother. She leaves behind her two daughters, Dena Hysmith of Louisville, TN, and Darla Hysmith of Nashville, TN, both of whom were the heart of her existence. Her two grandchildren, Madison and John Dyer, brought her endless joy, and she regarded them as her proudest accomplishments. In addition to her immediate family, Joan is survived by her brother, Charles Davis of Adairville, KY, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss her dearly.
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Donna Hysmith; her brother, William Davis; and her two sisters, Judy Matlock and Jean Dedmon. Their memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A graveside service to honor Joan’s life will take place on September 10, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Bells, TN. Joan Delores Hysmith may have left this world, but her love, creativity, and the beautiful legacy she created through her family and work will continue to resonate in all who knew her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love of those she has lost.
