Joan was born in Flint, MI on December 28, 1934, daughter of the late Everett and Sophia (Goodman) Stevens. She was a graduate of Flint Central High School Class of 1952. On December 27, 1952, Joan Stevens married the love of her life, Jack Layman. Their union was a beautiful testament to love and commitment, lasting over four decades until Jack's passing on August 7, 1994. For 69 faithful years, Joan was a devoted member of Calvary Presbyterian Church of Flint, MI. Her steadfast presence, gentle spirit, and willing hands touched the lives of many within her church community. Whether through quiet service or joyful fellowship, Joan lived out her faith with grace and humility. Joan found joy in life's simple pleasures. She was an avid reader, a gifted baker, and had a natural talent for gardening-each flower she tended a reflection of her nurturing soul. She especially cherished time spent with family and friends, filling their lives with warmth, laughter, and unforgettable memories. A lover of the water, Joan found peace and happiness in swimming and spending time by the lake, where she felt most connected to the beauty of the world around her. Joan will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering faith, and the love she so freely gave to all who knew her. Her legacy is one of quiet strength, deep devotion, and a life well-lived.
Joan is survived by her loving family, 5 children, Jan (Scott) Herriman, Jill (Norman) Ritter, Jack (Cheryl) Layman, John Layman and Jeff Layman; 10 grandchildren, Patrick (Amy) Herriman, Michael (Kelly) Herriman, Jared (Lindsay) Layman, Cristen (Charles) King, Cara (Joel) Stone, Joel Layman, James Layman, John (Caroline, who is expecting) Layman, Emma Layman and Hannah Layman; 8 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Katie, Jake, Oliver, Jackson, Jay, Xavier and Johnny; extended family, Justin, Linzi, Alvia and Audri Brooks; brother, Robert Stevens; many other loving family members and dear friends.
