On 02/16/2025, The Lis Family of Coon Rapids MN lost their matriarch, Joan Marie Lis.
Joan faced health issues in her final years, but each time she was challenged, she fought to regain functions, and was an inspiration to her 6 children, 13 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. She gave, and taught them, unconditional love, support and understanding. Even with all she went through, she was concerned about them, their lives and their challenges. You could not ask how she was, until you gave her a family update. She was the perfect mother and will be missed by all who loved her.
She was a long-term Team Member of Target in Coon Rapids, the original Coon Rapids Blvd location, and an avid Chicago Bears fan. She enjoyed playing pull tabs, time at her daughter's lake homes, phone chats with her family and beloved twin sister, Barb. Any meal with her family was treated as an event. Joan also loved her sweets, and shopping at Marshall's and TJ Maxx. Her Polish heritage, and all associated tradition, has been passed on to all her surviving relatives. Christmas must be a Polish themed meal in all Lis households. She enjoyed any activity that involved her beloved family, and never missed an opportunity to be with them.
Each of us have many treasured memories of time with her, and these were recounted many times in the days prior to her passing. We laughed, we cried, and most important, we celebrated her wonderful life. In her final moments, she opened her eyes for an extended amount of time, and her love and pride shown through those caring eyes, as she used them to say goodbye, as she could not communicate verbally.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 of years Herbert M Lis, her parents Robert and Jean Robak, and her brother Kenneth Robak, all of Chicago. They are waiting to welcome her to God's Kingdom of Heaven. We lost her, but they have gained her.
Joan is survived by 6 loving children and their Families.
Keith and Valerie Lis, 3 grandchildren, Ryan (Tara), Jen, and Shaun, and 8 great grandchildren, Braden, Amaya, Dale, Lucy, Leanna, Liam, Emersyn, and Tanner
