Joan Rose Zimlich Miller, 85, died on November 7, 2025. She was born in Louisville on April 18, 1940, to the late Clarence and Catherine Bailey Zimlich. Joan was a graduate of Presentation Academy in Louisville. She was a former employee of Dun and Bradstreet. After marrying her husband John, they lived Danville, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Texas before moving back to Danville. When her children were young, she was a wonderful stay-at-home mother who was very dedicated to her family. After returning to Danville, Joan and John opened Candlelight and Roses Restaurant on Main Street. Joan loved sewing and gardening, especially growing orchids. Joan seemed to always have a gift for you and a way of making your time with her special. She loved her shih tzu Gypsy. Joan was a parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. In addition to her parents and husband, John E. Miller, Joan was predeceased by a brother, William "Billy" Zimlich and a brother-in-law Larry Gettelfinger.
Joan is survived by her daughters, Renee (Doug) James and Crissy (Richard Knepfler) Miller, son, Bill (Stacy) Miller, grandchildren, Omar "John" (Aisha) Ghani, Karli Knepfler, Samantha (Matt) Ison, Xander Miller, Nate Miller, Liam Miller, and Hannah (Cameron) Shepherd, great-grandchildren, Khidr, Hafsha, and Sylas, and sisters, Doris (Michael) Huettig and Carolyn (the late Larry) Gettelfinger, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The celebrant will be Father Danny Schwendemen. Pallbearers will be Omar "John" Ghani, Rich Knepfler, Doug James, Xander Miller, Nate Miller, Liam Miller, Bill Miller, and Mike Huettig. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 6 pm on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Stith Funeral Home in Danville.
