Joan Samperi

Joan (nee Burke), Samperi, 92, died Sat. June 17, after a long illness. A native of Jersey City, Joan moved to the shore area in the early 50s. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton and taught first and second grade at Oakhurst School in Oakhurst, NJ, from 1961-1964. After marrying her husband, Paul Samperi, in 1964, Joan helped run the family business, Paul Samperi's Restaurant and Lounge, in Ocean Township, NJ. When the business was sold in 1974, Joan devoted her energies to raising her daughter and volunteering. Her hobbies included gardening, reading and tutoring students. Joan was devoted to her faith and was a parishioner of St. Denis in Manasquan, NJ and later St. James in Red Bank, NJ.
In addition to her parents, Mildred and Thomas Burke, Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Paul, and a sister, Mary Patricia Burke Nolan. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Samperi; a sister, Mildred Burke Coglianese; ten nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, from 5-7 pm at Orender Funeral Home, 2343 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan, NJ 08736. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 11am at St. Margaret's Church in Spring Lake, NJ, followed by interment at Mt. Calvary in Ocean Township.
