Joan E. Thiede

Joan E. Thiede of Appleton passed away on November 27, 2022, at the age of 94. She is joining her late husband, Russell W. Thiede who passed away on January 21, 2020, in the kingdom of heaven. Joan was born on June 30, 1928, in Flint Michigan and Russell was born on July 18, 1923, in Capentersville, IL. They met in Ann Arbor, MI where they both were students at the University of Michigan. They were united in marriage in June of 1947 and enjoyed 73 years of marriage.   Joan was a talented artist who used all mediums in the art world to express her creativity. She passed on this love of art to her students as she taught art in the lakeshore area. Russell worked in the wood products industry, most recently with Eggers Products in Two Rivers, from where he retired.    Their passion to see our country led them to visit all 50 states in America via camping, air travel or sea cruises. Joan and Russell enjoyed all outdoor activities together whether by hiking in the National Parks, cross country skiing and biking in Wisconsin or swimming, sailing or tennis in Florida.   Joan and Russell are survived by sons David, Brisbane Australia, Alan (MiMi), Appleton; daughter Andrea, Columbia MO; and grandchildren: Eric (Stacey) Thiede, Menasha, Jennifer (Mike) Van Groll, Appleton, Allison (Rob Drapeau) Thiede, Gurnee, IL, Heather (Barry) Reimer, Atlanta, GA, and Faydre (Mike) McGinnis, Columbia, MO. Great grandchildren: Mason and Cole, Menasha; Brady, Caleb and Landon, Appleton; Aubry and Wyatt, Atlanta, GA; and Riley, Columbia, MO as well as other friends and family will greatly miss them.   The family would like to thank the staff at Touchmark and Hospice for their care that made Joan as comfortable as possible during her last months.    A private service will be held at Touchmark.
