Joan Faye Thompson, born in the "little room" on the farm in Summit Township, North Dakota, to Art and Myrtle Daman, peacefully went home to be with Jesus while surrounded by family on February 9th at 1:46pm. She was 87 years old. Joan's early years were spent in rural North Dakota, where she attended a one-room schoolhouse until the 12th grade. She continued her education at the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. It was in Wahpeton, in the summer of 1957, that Joan met the love of her life, Gary Thompson, waiting in line at the DQ. They were married on November 20, 1957. Gary's service in the Navy led them to Rhode Island, but they eventually settled back in Minnesota. They lived in St. Paul before moving to Bloomington, where they raised their three children: Greg, born in 1960, Kris in 1963, and Steve in 1967. Joan's life was marked by both joy and heartache, as she endured a devastating car accident in 1961, which tragically resulted in the loss of her unborn son, "Baby Jay". Joan dedicated her life to raising her children and nurturing her family. She was an exceptional cook and baker, known for her homemade treats and warm hospitality. She loved planting and caring for beautiful flowers and always made sure her bird feeders were full of the finest bird seed available. A passionate student of the Bible, Joan served as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship for many years, deeply committed to her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Joan's love for her family knew no bounds. She treasured spending time with her eight grandchildren, often taking them to plays, dinner theaters, movies, and creating cherished memories that will last forever. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, and her life was a testament to her unwavering love for God and her family.
Joan will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harlen Daman, husband Gary and her unborn infant son Jay. She leaves behind her loving children, Greg (Bobbi) Thompson, Bloomington MN, Kris (Vark) Tadian, Prior Lake, MN and Steve (Kari) Thompson, Lakeville, MN and her nine grandchildren; Sam, Tyler, Jewel, Jack, Baron, Tori, Taylor, Ella, and Tanner. Her legacy of faith, love, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church.
A memorial service to celebrate Joan's life will be held on February 25th at Grace Church, Eden Prairie, MN at 2pm. Visitation will start at 1pm.
