JoAnn Cravey, a cherished member of her community and beloved family matriarch, passed away peacefully at her residence in Milan on July 3, 2025, after an extended illness. She was born on September 29, 1942, in McRae, Georgia, and dedicated her life to her family and her work in the community.
JoAnn was a proud graduate with honors from Telfair County High School, where she showcased her athletic talents by playing basketball, contributing to a team that won the state championship in 1960-1961. Her drive and determination were evident not only in her youth but throughout her life, as she became a long-time co-owner, co-operator, and co-manager of Cravey's Country Store and Cravey Farms, businesses that became staples in the community.
Those who knew JoAnn often described her as a person with a beautiful smile, the sweetest nature, and a loving heart. Her Christian faith was a cornerstone of her life, as she loved her Lord and Savior deeply. JoAnn was a proud member of Rebecca Baptist Church, where she found community and connection.
JoAnn cherished her family above all. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Edsel Cravey, and their children: daughter Michelle Cravey (Freddie) Dorris of Milan and son Brian Cravey of Daytona, Florida. She had the joy of being a grandmother to Erica (Heith) Scott of Glenwood, Zachery (Raegin) Christian of Milan, Justin Cravey of California, Taylor (Nick) Child of Jesup, Alex Dorris of Milan, and Tyler Dorris of Eastman. Additionally, JoAnn was blessed with great-grandchildren Kaleigh Scott, Jackson Scott, Graham Christian, Isla Child, Josie Dorris, and Greyson Dorris, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Known for her love of cooking, meeting and greeting new people, and spending time with her family, JoAnn was a light to all who met her. She had a particular fondness for flowers and enjoyed riding the farm that she and Edsel worked so diligently to maintain. Her special fur baby, Bella, was also a beloved companion throughout her life, providing her with constant companionship and joy.
A graveside service to honor JoAnn's life will be held on July 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery in Milan, Georgia. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate a life well-lived and to share their fond memories of a remarkable woman who will be dearly missed.
JoAnn Cravey's warmth, sweetness, and unwavering love will remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.
