After graduation in 1964, he accepted a position at Middle Georgia College where he taught Biology and Chemistry courses for over fifty years. In addition to his profession as an educator, Gene enjoyed spending time farming. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Cochran and the Oneness Sunday School Class.
Gene married the love of his life, Dorothy Lanier Cravey, in 1965 at her childhood home in Augusta, Georgia. They were happily married for fifty-seven years. Left to cherish his memories are daughter, Agena Michele Dyal (Robert) of Cochran; son, Brannen Lanier Cravey (Melanie) of Cochran; granddaughters, Mallory Veal (John Andrew) of Bonaire and Emily Hauesler (Dakota) of Bonaire; grandson, Braegan Cravey, of Cochran; great-granddaughter, Ruby Veal of Bonaire; and sister, Eunice Cravey Nobles of Cochran.
