JoAnn "Jo" Honcoop, 79, passed away on January 17, 2025 in Lynden, WA. JoAnn was born to Johan and Bonnie Jean (Smothers) Van Lohuizen on December 28, 1945 in San Francisco, CA. Her parents divorced when JoAnn and her older brother, Jan, were toddlers.
JoAnn lived in a foster home in San Rafael, CA. She was adopted by Steven and Margaret Van Lohuizen (Lynden, WA) in 1959. Jo attended Ebenezer Christian School and graduated from Lynden Christian High School in 1965. She was also a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Lynden. Jo married Donald Honcoop in Lynden on July 26, 1974.
Jo and Donald enjoyed bowling for many years at the Lynden Skateway & Bowl. Jo was also known for her home-made pies which she gave to family and friends. Jo loved dogs and bred, raised, and trained black and golden Labrador Retrievers. She was also a co-leader of the Crazy K-9's 4-H Club in Lynden. The children would train and show their dogs in obedience and agility trials at the Lynden Northwest Washington Fair.
Jo was preceded in death by her biologic and adopted parents; brothers, Lee (Lucella) Van Lohuizen and Rickey Van Lohuizen; and brother-in-law, Lambert "Larry" Strengholt. Jo is survived by her husband, Donald Honcoop; brother, Jan (Helen) Van Lohuizen; sister-in-law, Arlene Van Lohuizen; sister, Ruthele Strengholt; brother-in-law, Larry (Sue) Honcoop; sister-in-law, Margery Holsather; and numerous nephews and nieces. Jo was cremated under the care of Sig’s Funeral Services. No services are planned
