It is with deep sadness and much love that the Williams family mourns the passing of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Joann Francis Williams. She passed away on October 30, 2025, at the age of 89.
Joann was born on April 4, 1936, in Salisbury, MD to Marion Franklin Parsons, Sr. and Anna Maria Banks Parsons. She was married for 71 years to love of her life, John (Jack) Williams, who sadly passed away only a few short weeks ago. Our heartbreak of losing one is immeasurable, but the pain of losing both in such a short span of time, is a grief we are all struggling to comprehend.
Joann was also preceded in death by her brother and his wife, Marion Franklin Parsons, Jr and Pauline Kraus Parsons; her daughter Terri Lynn Murrell and her son John Mark Williams. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Ann Williams; and a proud lineage that includes seven grandchildren: Kristin Murrell, Michael Williams, Tyler (Ashley) Murrell, Shaun (Nikki) Taylor, Trevor (Brittney) Taylor, Sarah (Chris) Broderick and Emily (Michael) Bloodsworth. Joann was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren, who brought so much joy to her life.
Joann lived an unforgettable, beautiful life, filled with much love and happiness. After graduating from Wicomico High School in 1954, she worked at Johnny and Sammy's Restaurant and Benedict the Florist, both famous landmarks in Salisbury. Later, she went on to work in her uncle's family business, R.H. Polliard Co., specializing in plumbing and HVAC. She and husband, Jack, would eventually become the owners for 45+ years. Their work ethic and commitment to quality service earned them much respect and lifelong relationships within the community they served.
Joann was known for her generosity and her unwavering devotion to her family. She was not only a wife and mother but also a cherished "Mom mom" to her grandchildren & great- grandchildren. They were the love and light of her life.
An excellent seamstress, Joann found joy in knitting and crocheting, crafting special heirloom blankets for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her many talents, she also had a beautiful singing voice and was an accomplished pianist. She shared her love of music with the community as a member of the local chapter of The Sweet Adelines and performed frequently in the 1960's.
However, of all her many talents, she will be most remembered for her amazing cooking skills. She used her culinary magic to gather the whole family together every chance she could. She had the unique ability to make even the simplest dinner of BLT's taste like a feast. It wasn't just the food she prepared, but the love and warmth that always filled her home. All of our family traditions began and ended around the kitchen table, where countless memorable celebrations took place. From Christmas to Easter, Halloween to birthdays, she transformed each occasion into a treasured event, serving her famous ham, chicken salad, or deviled eggs, all with a special touch that no one could ever replicate. Joann was loved by everyone who knew her and will be forever missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 16, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Wildflowers Estate in Mardela Springs, MD 21837. Lunch will be served and family and friends are invited to attend.
