Margaret Ann "Maggie" (Hudnall) Miller died peacefully at her home in Mila, Virginia on October 22, 2025, at the age of 89 years old. She was born November 1, 1935 in Mila, the daughter of Joseph Herbert and Roberta Frances (Sisson) Hudnall, who preceded her in death.
Maggie was also preceded in death by her husband of more than 66 years, Skip Miller; her grandson, Thomas McCauley; two brothers, Calvin and Beverly, and one sister, Norma.
She is survived by three daughters, Ann McCauley (Rob MacGillivray), Gretchen Svitko (Drew), and Stephanie Spahlinger (Matt); three grandsons, Will Svitko (Christine Persun), Stephen Svitko, and Peter Svitko; and a tuxedo cat named Boots. Maggie also leaves behind adored nieces, nephews and extended family members and many treasured friends.
Maggie attended Wicomico High School where she was the valedictorian of the last graduating class in 1953. After high school she matriculated to Longwood College where she studied Education and graduated with high honors in 1957. She was a member and secretary of the Pi Gamma Mu social sciences honor society and a member of the Kappa Delta Pi educational honor society.
Maggie married Skip in June, 1958, and moved with him following his career to Newport News, VA, Raleigh, NC, Norfolk, VA, Richmond, VA, Roanoke, VA, Medford, NJ, Houston, TX, and back to Medford, NJ, before finally retiring to Northumberland County, VA after 30 years. In that time she raised three daughters, taught elementary and middle school, and pursued her interests in gardening, sewing, refinishing furniture, reading, bridge club, and solving the daily crossword puzzle - all with her characteristic intelligence and attention to detail.
After moving back to Mila, Maggie belonged to Mila Methodist Church and was active in her community association, the Lee Dale Shores Property Association, where she was secretary for many years.
In the last 10 years of her life, Maggie was a tireless and loving caregiver to Skip, who experienced the effects of Alzheimer's disease before his own death in January, 2025. Yet she still made time to host family and friends at her home, while enjoying good food, a glass of wine, and the nightly challenge of Jeopardy!
Funeral services will be held at Mila Methodist Church with internment at Mila Community Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 8, 2025. The family will receive visitors one hour before the service and a reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mila Methodist Church (c/o Brenda Minnick, PO Box 112, Wicomico Church, VA 22579), Mila Community Cemetery (c/o E. A. Maggie's family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the kind and caring staff at Hospice of Virginia. Their compassion was greatly appreciated.
