Joanna Maxine Abbruzzese, of Warner Robins, Georgia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on December 21, 2024, at the age of 81. She was born on March 23, 1943, in Prospect, Tennessee, to the late Buren and Martha (Ellis) Dunavant.
After completing high school, Joanna earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. She worked as a CPA in West Virginia, where she dedicated herself to her career and made many lasting professional relationships. Joanna also served as the secretary/treasurer of her husband's construction company, Potomac Construction Industries in Martinsburg, WV.
Joanna was a woman of deep compassion and a strong sense of service. She was actively involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Panhandle, where she served as a Big Sister to many young girls, providing guidance and support. Additionally, she had a passion for genealogy, often researching her family's history, and enjoyed reading in her spare time.
A faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins, Joanna was an active participant in church activities and devoted much of her time to serving others. Her unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life.
Joanna's devotion to her family was evident in her 59 years of marriage to her loving husband, John Francis Abbruzzese, whom she married on June 26, 1965. Together, they built a beautiful life and family. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Francine Michelle Abbruzzese.
Joanna is survived by her loving husband, John; her son, Michael John Abbruzzese of Eatonton, Georgia; her granddaughter, Erika Leigh Abbruzzese of Charlotte, North Carolina; and her grandson, Nicholas Michael Abbruzzese of Warner Robins, Georgia. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A visitation for Joanna will be held on January 6, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory. The service will be officiated by Rev. Stephen Byrd.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Central Baptist Church, 1120 Lake Joy Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088 to honor Joanna's memory and her enduring faith.
Joanna's legacy of love, service, and faith will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and community.
With honor, Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
