Joanne Aaronson Steinberg (Surro), of
Toms River, NJ passed away at home on October 27, 2023. She was 61. Joanne was born in
Trenton, NJ on May 8, 1962 to Wilhemina Jeannette Surro (Orlowski) and the late Frank D. Surro. She is survived by her loving husband, Stewart P. Steinberg, her son Kenneth M. Aaronson, her daughter Jillian F. Aaronson and her son-in-law Anthony Lostracco, stepdaughters Emily Steinberg and Megan Forgione and her husband Nicholas Forgione, her brothers Frank M. Surro and his fiancé Emilia Rubino and David A. Surro and his wife Joni, her sister-in-law Sharyn Surro, wife of her brother, the late Thomas A. Surro, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Daniel and Dawn Meighan, her mother-in-law Gayle A. Steinberg, wife of the late Richard M. Steinberg, her grandson Anthony Lostracco III. Also, her nieces and nephew, Sydney, Georgia, and Cameron Surro, Michael Borelli and his wife Janel, Haley Spadaro and her husband Sal, and many other family and friends.
Joanne grew up in
Trenton, NJ and graduated from Steinert High School. For the past 19 years she was the Executive Assistant to the President & CEO of the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) in
Princeton, NJ.
Joanne liked to spend her time exercising, cooking & baking, gardening and tending to her many chickens, all of which she named. She was an avid biker, triathlete and a passionate yogi. She loved tulips, excessive holiday decorating, and long car rides with homemade sandwiches. She loved finishing the entire pot of coffee on Saturdays and Sundays with Stewart before starting their day and finishing the day with a chocolate martini (those who have had the pleasure of having one of her famous martinis knows what everyone else is missing). She also indulged in a few guilty pleasures like her extensive wardrobe and her Tesla.
She loved live music and couldn't wait each summer to dance crazy at the Bonnaroo Music Festival where she would frequent the silent disco and throw glow sticks into the crowd when the beat dropped. Harry Styles may have been the only man that could turn her head from her loving husband. Styles' song "As It Was" became her mantra during her battle with cancer. Recently, that song was replaced with "Marry You" by Bruno Mars whose lyrics suggest an unplanned and impromptu wedding. Which occurred, when she recently married the love of her life Stewart in Lake George. A place where she enjoyed spending the past twelve summers camping and being one with nature.
Joanne loved her family tremendously and was beyond proud to be a mom, stepmom, and grandmother. She was the epitome of kindness, grace, and compassion and will be dearly missed.
