Joanne Renee Veglia, 63, of Schenectady, NY passed away peacefully September 27, 2025 surrounded by family. Born December 7, 1961 in Key West, FL to James D. and Andra M. Hankey, Joanne graduated Salutatorian from Eden Central Schools in Eden, NY. She then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in foreign languages at SUNY Oswego.

While studying abroad her junior year in Wuerzburg, Germany, Joanne met her husband of 40 years, Carl Veglia. They married in 1985 and settled in Schenectady, NY where Joanne completed her studies, earning a master’s degree in education at SUNY Albany. She went on to teach German and French for nearly 30 years in the Burnt Hills and Schenectady school districts.

Joanne was a member of Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church, where she participated in several volunteer and outreach events. She enjoyed traveling, rooting for the Buffalo Bills, and playing Words with Friends. Her most cherished activity though was spending time with her family.

Joanne is survived by her loving husband Carl, “her boys” Benjamin (Jenna), and Samuel (Mackenzie), and her grandchildren, Calvin (4) and Theodore (1).Caring for her family was her greatest source of joy, and she showed that every day with a radiant smile, often saying, “I love my boys."

She is survived by her parents, James and Andra Hankey, siblings, Dan (Christine) Hankey, Pete (Vicki) Hankey, and Jill (Charlie) Bellia, and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

In keeping with Joanne’s wishes, there will be no formal services. Her family will honor her life in a private celebration.
