Pawhuska resident Joe B. Allen passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the
Bartlesville Assisted Living Center. He was 96 years old.
Joe was born December 29, 1928, in Pawhuska, the son of James B. and Mary Linda (Polk)
Allen. He attended school in Pawhuska, graduating from Pawhuska High School. He then
attended Oklahoma A&M (now OSU), where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and
the Army ROTC. On August 26, 1950, Joe married Ann "Andy" Clark in Ardmore, OK. Following
Joe's service in the US Army, the Allens moved to Pawhuska in 1953 and established their
home. In 1954, Joe began his career at Allen Brothers Feed, where he remained until his
retirement in 1991. Andy preceded Joe in death on February 3, 2002. Joe then met Doris
"Dottie" Leverett, and they were married on November 29, 2003. They, too, established their
home in Pawhuska and were married for 21 years.
In 2020, Joe was inducted into the Osage County Cattlemen's Association Hall of Fame for his
contributions to the Cattle and agricultural business. Over the years, he served on the
Pawhuska Hospital Board, Pawhuska City Council, both as a member and as Mayor, and the
Pawhuska School Board, where he had served as President. Undoubtedly, his favorite pastime
was fishing, and he loved going to Canada each year to fish with his family and friends over the
years. Bird hunting certainly ran a close second!
Surviving family include his wife, Dottie Allen; children Claudia (Les) Dillman, Ben (Susan) Allen,
Mary Linda "Lindy" (Clancy) Hudson, Sue (Wayne) McClain, James Roan (LouAnna) Allen and
David Paul (Lucy) Leverett; Dr. Betsy Leverett (John) Hough; Dr. Jill Leverett (Matt) Watson;
brother Richard "Dick" Allen; grandchildren Lacy Allen; Libby (Patrick) Downey; Dr. Joe Clay
(Lisis) Hudson; Paul A. (Laura) Hudson; Morgan (Nate) Baker; Corbin (Caleb) Wilson; Matthew

Fisherman's Prayer
I pray that I may live to fish
Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's great landing net
And peacefully asleep
That in His mercy I be judged
Big enough to keep.

Joe, Dick, Bob Wilson and I enjoyed many Canadian fishing adventures. Flying in and out Joe always enjoyed being up front with the pilot.
