Funeral services for Joe Gayle Berry, 86, of Henderson, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home, with David Rudd officiating. Burial will follow at Neeley Cemetery under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. until service time.
Mr. Joe Gayle Berry of Henderson passed away on October 26, 2025 at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler after a brief illness. Gayle was born on January 24, 1939 in Henderson to Forrest (Bill) Berry and Gladys (Wylie) Berry. He attended Henderson High School and graduated from Kilgore College. He retired from GTE after 38 years of service and was a life-long resident on Rusk County. Gayle enjoyed raising cattle, hunting, sharing his blueberry patch and garden with many friends, and watching his great granddaughter Jacie Boothe play softball. He spent countless hours of his life building and maintaining the Whispering Pines Youth Encampment. Every year during camp he manned the "Snack Shack" and became friends with many generations of campers. Gayle was an active long-time member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Henderson.
Mr. Berry was preceded in death by his wife Patricia (Patty) Berry. His parents Bill and Gladys Berry. His sister Mary Elisabeth Weatherford and husband Jess Weatherford.
He is survived by his sons Stanley and wife Terri Berry, Anthony and wife Angela Berry, Jed and wife Cindy King, Jon and wife Martha King, Chris and wife Linda King, Allen and wife Janet King, and daughter Mandi and husband Ray Burns. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also, a special niece and nephew Kim Stewart and Kyle Weatherford.
Pallbearers will be Scott Taylor, Kyle Weatherford, Brodrick Burks, Mitchell Stewart, Richard Wallace, and John Davidson.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Whispering Pines Youth Encampment in honor of the many years Gayle dedicated to the camp at P.O. Box 183, Henderson, Texas 75653.
