Joe Case (12/28/55-12/22/21):
It's hard to imagine a world without Joe Case in it. There was just something about him. If you met him, he immediately made you feel special. So to imagine a world without that smile, the sense of humor, the fantastic voice and his incredible talent is hard to wrap your head around.
But let me tell you a little more about someone who certainly wasn't your 'average' Joe.
Joseph Sidney Case was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on December 28, 1955. The family moved to Jackson, Tennessee where Joe grew up. He graduated Northside High School and attended Jackson State Community College. Joe knew very early on he loved to talk for a living! And people loved to listen to him. His broadcast career started in radio as a DJ, news director and eventual program director at WJAK. But Joe didn't just have a radio voice, he had the "it" factor that translated well to television. His TV career began at Jackson's ABC affiliate, WBBJ-TV. That led him to Nashville in 1985. He was weather anchor and co-host on WTVF-TV NewsChannel 5's popular talk show, "Talk of the Town".
It was at WTVF that he met the love of his life, Pamela Beatty Case. Pam was hired to produce on-location segments for "Talk of the Town". Their love was unmatched. They truly wanted to spend every waking moment together. Even after 34 years of marriage, their eyes lit up when the other was in the room.
Pam says one of the reasons she fell in love with Joe was the way he was always looking for the "good". The positive. "Joe always looked for the laugh, a way to find a smile. Negative wasn't in his vocabulary," said Pam.
Joe remained at WTVF until 2000. Followed by six years at Nashville's Fox 17 as the prime-time weather anchor and feature reporter. Also, Joe did on air work at Hippie Radio 94.5 as a weather specialist and show host since 2012. In 2016, Joe joined Country Road TV as a video producer/editor for nationally-syndicated television programs Larry's Country Diner and Country's Family Reunion.
To know Joe was to know he was a man of deep faith. He unashamedly loved Jesus. So much so, Joe became a church planter in middle Tennessee during a 15-year season, leading and co-leading congregations in Cheatham County, Wilson County and west Nashville.
While dedicated to his loving church family, he especially cherished time with his family at home, as a proud father of three, and lovingly known as "Poppy" to two beautiful grandsons.
Another talent Joe had was as a wood worker.He was a true craftsman. He made pipes that were works of art. He made exquisite cutting boards and other pieces of hardwood art. The man was truly multi-talented.
We dare not forget his love for golf. If the weather was good (and sometimes even if it wasn't) he would play a round of golf with his buddies. Those friends were like his second family.
Joe passed away after a short illness on December 22, 2021. Joe is survived by wife Pam, children Chelsea Givens (Andy) of Nashville, Chris Case (Dana Primak) of Jackson, TN and Stephanie Shrewsbury (Andrew) of Lexington, KY, and his mother Martha Case Johnson of Jackson, TN - and fuzzy family members Harley and Hershey.
While it appears God needed some help with his golf game, and called Joe home sooner than we would have liked, we can say this: If you knew Joe Case your life was richer. "If you were in his life, he loved you deep," said Pam.
And we loved him deeply. Forever and always in our hearts Joe Case.
