Joe Deupree Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hannigan Smith Funeral Home on Dec. 12, 2025.
A celebration of the life of Joe Hugh Deupree, a lifelong resident of Athens, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m., December 26, 2025, at the Hanigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Joe passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and hard work. Born to Walton Porter and Mattie Jo (Bell) Deupree, Joe grew up in Athens where he attended Athens High School before continuing his education at the University of North Texas.

Joe dedicated over 40 years of his career to Adams Brothers, where his commitment and work ethic were admired by all. Beyond his professional life, Joe was a proud local farmer and cattle rancher, deeply connected to the land and nature he cherished.

He shared 48 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Darleen Deupree, together building a family rooted in love and faith. Joe was a devoted father to his daughters Amy Deupree and Jennifer Brantly (Deupree), son-in-law Chadwick Brantly, and a proud grandfather to Trevor Deupree, Jace Trammell, Aida Ghuneim, Sami Ghuneim and Bryan Marvin Brantly. His family was the joy of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren-watching them play sports and sharing special moments driving the tractor together on the family farm.

Joe is also survived by his brother Porter Deupree and wife Carolyn; brothers-in-law, Jerry Grillet and Peggy Walker, Tim Grillet and wife Dana, along with many nieces and nephews who will remember his kindness, humor, and steady presence.

Known for his gentle demeanor and spirited humor, Joe loved the outdoors, his farm, and most of all, his family. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather, and loyal friend whose life reflected the values of hard work, humility, and love.

His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy will continue through the family he so dearly cherished.

A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m., December 26, 2025, at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
