Joe T. Henson, 93, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, passed away on October 15, 2025. He was born to Herman Dierks Henson and Eather Dow Harbison on April 8, 1932, in Idabel, Oklahoma, which was his mother's birthday.
Joe joined the 45th Division of the National Guard, known as the Thunderbirds, and was called up to serve in Japan and the Korean War. Joe received the Army Occupation Medal (Japan), the Korean Service Medal, with 1 Bronze Campaign Star, and the UN Service Medal, and served until July 1952. After returning to the United States, Joe began his career at Tinker Field Air Force Base in Midwest City, Oklahoma, advancing in promotions to GS-11, where he retired after 41 years of supporting the Air Force as a Logistics specialist.
Joe married his wife of 72 years, Jessie Helen (McGuffin) Henson, at Olivet Baptist Church in Oklahoma City on June 6th, 1953. Joe and Jessie were members of Capitol Hill Baptist in their early years, in the 1950s and 1960s, and then they were members of Church on the Rock in Oklahoma City for 20 years. While there, Joe was a greeter and volunteered with the food ministry.
Joe was very patriotic and loved to visit Branson, Missouri, to listen to country music and attend Veterans Week events. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Herman Henson, his mother, Eather Henson, and his granddaughter, Tonya Henson Tootles. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jessie, his son, Michel Henson (wife Megon); his daughter, Helen Lynch (husband Dale); his grandchildren, Jenny Little (husband Eric), David Bingham (wife Michelle), Daniel Bingham (wife Tracy), Michel Ryan Henson, and Mary Kate Haug (husband Joey). Numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren whom we loved and enjoyed seeing at family events.
Most important was that Joe accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in his early 20s. Nothing was more important to him than serving his Savior. Joe was very generous with his time and money and gave the Lord the credit for all that he had and all that he was able to provide to his family and others. To God be the glory.
Services will be rendered by Barnes Friederich & Pope Funeral Home, 1820 S Douglas Blvd, Midwest City, OK 73130. Visitation for Joe will be Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 1:00pm - 8:00pm. A Funeral Service will be at 2:00pm, Monday, October 20, 2025, in the Barnes Friederich & Pope Funeral Home Chapel.
