Joe Neal Hoke, born July 22, 1936, passed away at his home on February 15th, 2024, at the age of 87. He was born to Donald and Inez Hoke. Joe attended Reagan High School in Houston, Texas. Following his high school years, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and excelled in boxing and marksmanship as a rifle range instructor training recruits.
After an honorable discharge, Joe Hoke joined Brown & Root, where he began a career in the construction of submarine pipelines around the world. He began his career on the decks of offshore construction vessels and played a leading role in the evolution of the submarine pipeline construction industry from primitive equipment and processes to the sophisticated construction vessels and highly developed systems and procedures employed today, eventually retiring as an Operations Manager.
Upon retirement, he settled in Huntsville, Texas, spending cherished moments with his family and grandchildren, often at his beloved farm or on family dove hunting trips. Joe was a member of the Reagan Masonic Lodge.
Joe Hoke will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his country, his love of the outdoors and his farm and cattle ranch. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and service. He is survived by his brother Pete Hoke and Sister-in-law Sharon Hoke. His children, Joe Hoke Jr. and daughter-in-law Laurie, Sissy Byrd, and Frank Hoke and daughter-in-law Lisa; six grandchildren, Morgan and Hoke Byrd, Cade and Beau Hoke, Lauren and Kinsey Hoke.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jan Dreesen Hoke, his parents Donald and Inez Hoke, his sisters Alice Gresham and Betty Fowler, and his brother Donald "Peewee" Hoke.
Memorial service will be held at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home at 10 A.M. on Friday February 23, 2024. Memorial condolences to the family may be made at www.shmfh.com.
