In Memory of Commander Joe Blane Lentz, USN (Ret.) Joe Blane Lentz, 84, of Callaway, Maryland, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Leonardtown, Maryland. He was born on August 16, 1940, in Sheffield, Alabama, the son of Felix and Odie Lentz. Joe dedicated his life to service. He joined the United States Navy as a young man, beginning his career as a Seaman and working tirelessly to rise through the ranks to Commander. Over more than 30 years of service, he earned the respect of his fellow sailors through leadership, integrity, and commitment to duty. After retiring from the Navy, Joe began a second career with BAE Systems, where he continued to contribute to the nation's defense. His work ethic and steady leadership left a lasting impact on colleagues and friends alike. For over three decades, Callaway was Joe's home. There, he was known as a dependable neighbor, a trusted friend, and a man whose word could be counted on. To his grandchildren, he was "Pop Pop"-a source of wisdom, humor, and love. To those who served with him, he would always be "Commander." Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Della Browning Lentz. He is survived by his children, Teresa (Paul) Evans of Newport News, Virginia, Pamela Jo Lentz of Callaway, Maryland, and Robert Corey Lentz of Callaway, Maryland; his brother, David Lentz of Florence, Alabama; and three grandchildren, Hannah McConaughy, Rachel McConaughy, and Connor Evans. He leaves behind a legacy of service, honor, and devotion to family that will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him. Services will be held at Greenview Funeral Home & Memorial Park. Visitation at 12 pm, Chapel service at 1pm followed by Graveside service for family.
