Joe Franklin Mackey, 92, passed away Sunday, November 12th, 2023, in the arms of his son in Greenville, South Carolina.
Visitation for Joe will be held at Fellowship Greenville Church on Monday Nov. 20th from 2:15-2:45 with a Celebration of Life to follow at 3:00PM.
Joe Franklin Mackey was born on July 29, 1931 in Breckenridge, Missouri, the son of James and Helen (Ralston) Mackey. He graduated from Mooresville High School and graduated from MU in Columbia, Missouri with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Joe married Mary Lou Stagner on April 1st, 1951 in Chillicothe, Missouri. Joe served his country as a member of the US Navy and was stationed at Oakland Naval Base. He will be interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego next to his wife at a later date. Joe worked as the Technical Director of Defense Operations for General Dynamics for many years. After his retirement he moved to West Plains, Missouri and owned and operated KKDY radio station. Joe then moved back to California and served as a hospital Chaplain. Lastly, he moved to South Carolina to be near family and enjoyed serving at the hospital as a Chaplain. Joe loved the Lord and his family. He enjoyed using the latest technology and devices and was very adept at it. His cat, Moses, brought him many hours of enjoyment and loved being at his side. Joe also enjoyed eating out especially at Chick Fil A and Cracker Barrel. He was a member at Fellowship Greenville. Joe will be dearly missed by all.
Joe is preceded in death by his wife Mary, parents, James and Helen Mackey, brother Benjamin Mackey, and grandson Matthew Truman. He is survived by his children, David (Mary) Mackey, Cathy (Douglas) McMorrow, and James (Susan) Mackey, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fellowship Greenville Missions Fund https://www.fellowshipgreenville.org/givenow.
