Joel Vaughn Amiot, 56, of Crookston, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
Joel, a New Year’s Baby, was born in Crookston on January 1, 1968, to Jerome "Jerry" and Priscilla (Veenstra) Amiot. He grew up in Crookston, surrounded by his three siblings and many extended family members. Joel attended Crookston Central High School, where he graduated as a member of the Class of 1986. During his time there he was a proud member of the varsity wrestling team.
On August 5, 1989, Joel was blessed by the birth of his son, Nick Amiot Blee. Joel and Nick cherished their time together attending Vikings and Twins games and enjoyed many memorable days on the lake with family. Joel was known for his strong work ethic and his exceptional talent in flooring installation. He owned and operated Amiot Installation for many years in Minnesota before relocating to Florida in 2004 to pursue new opportunities and goals.
Recently, Joel returned to Crookston to be closer to family. When his mother, Priscilla, required full-time care, Joel was by her side, grateful for the time they shared. Joel's positive spirit, uplifting presence, and quick wit brightened the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Joel is survived by his son, Nick Amiot Blee (Jeannie Parker) of Crystal MN; his father, Jerry Amiot of Crookston, MN; 3 sisters: Karen (Scott) Wilson of San Diego, CA, Leann (Tom) Cross of Minneapolis, and Sheila Champagne of Crookston; 2 brothers, Jay Amiot and Aaron Amiot, of Crookston; 4 uncles: Myron (Kathy Colley) Veenstra of Crookston, Dennis Amiot of Clearbrook, MN, and Johnny and Henry Amiot of Crookston; aunts, Marcie (Jim) Armstrong of Easley, SC and Joyce Amiot (Duane) Magsam of Crookston; as well as, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Priscilla Amiot-Waslaski and stepfather, Richard “Rick” Waslaski; stepmother, Claire (Amiot) Rhode; grandparents, Rene and Dora Amiot and Joe and Hazel Veenstra; and several aunts and uncles.
