Joel G. Bittner, 75, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital. He was born on November 10, 1950, in Waynesboro, PA to the late Edwin C., Sr. and Iona (Copenhaver) Bittner.
Joel was a 1968 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School. He was employed by Columbia Gas as a service Technician until his retirement. Joel was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Greencastle, PA, Greencastle Sportsman Club, Greencastle VFW, and Greencastle American Legion Post 373. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, spending time at his cabin, and spending time with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Jody L. (Sprankle) Bittner of Greencastle, PA whom he married on May 30, 1987; daughter Joelle Negley and her husband Darren of Leonardtown, MD; son Drew Bittner and his wife Jordan of Everett, PA; sister Nancy Kraker of Akron, OH; brother Edwin C. Bittner, Jr. of Torrington, WY; sister Tina Reese and her husband Daryl of Mercersburg, PA; grandchildren Dane and Della Negley and Evelyn, Clara, and Amelia Bittner; father-in-law Leo Sprankle of Greencastle, PA. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his mother-in-law Karen (Martz) Sprankle and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 12:00 PM (noon) at Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle Street, Greencastle, PA 17225, where Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 6 – 8 PM and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home above.
