Joel Garcia, known affectionately as Thatha, was born on March 19, 1960, in Seguin, Texas. He departed this life and was welcomed Home by the Lord on his birthday, March 19, 2025, surrounded by his family that held his heart.
For 43 years, Joel dedicated himself to his career at CMC Steel, taking immense pride in his work. He was not just an employee; he was a steadfast figure who showed commitment and perseverance throughout his career.
Joel was a devoted husband to Dolores Garcia, sharing 38 years of marriage filled with love and companionship. He was also a cherished father to his children: Cristal Dueñes (Christopher), Melissa Garcia (Victor Rangel), Jennifer Garcia (Michael Segura), Teresa Garcia (Angel Vargas), Carlos Garcia (Angel), and Alexis Peña and George Peña, whom he raised as his own. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Joe, Jerin, Christopher, Christina, Victor, Joel, Amelia, Michael, Natalia, Heath, Channing, Michael, Ayden, Aydrian, Ay'Jay, Kingston, Jazelle, Mauricio, Douglas, Kyson, Ozzy, and Alyana.
Family meant everything to Joel. He was always there for anyone in need, providing support and love. He is survived by his beloved mother, Abelia Garcia, and sister, Norma Rivera (Robert Rivera), along with numerous nieces and nephews who he was a loving uncle to as well as extended family and friends whose lives he touched.
Joel was a man who appreciated the simple joys of life. He loved sitting outside, enjoying the fresh air and the tranquility that comes with nature.
Preceding him in death were his father, Senon Garcia; his grandson, Angel Tony Rangel; his sister, Christine Garcia Castillo; and his brothers, Jose, Herman, and Ruben Garcia.
As we remember Joel Garcia, we hold on to the precious memories and the warmth he brought to our lives. He now has a special seat in heaven, where he will be watching over all who loved him.
The family wishes to thank Halcyon Hospice for all of their care to Joel.
Visitation will be held at Palmer Mortuary on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 5pm to 8pm. The recitation of the Rosary will be at 7pm and will be led by Deacon Nick Carrillo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday March 26, 2025, at 10am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Geronimo Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Heath Camarillo, Robert Rivera Jr., Ernesto Barrientos, Joseph Rivera, Kingston Garcia and Joe. Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael Segura Jr. and Heath Camarillo Jr.
