John Jerry Abbas, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend joined our Lord on August 6th, 2025. John was under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice and passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones at the age of 84. He was the son of John and Grace (DeBoer) Abbas born on March 22, 1941.
John lived a life dedicated to family, faith and farming. He was joined in marriage to Lucille Ann Osborn on October 11, 1963, in Wellsburg, Iowa. Together they worked tirelessly on their dairy farm, which became a cornerstone of their family's legacy. Throughout his life, John balanced raising a family alongside of a small dairy farm North of Wellsburg. John and his wife Lucille raised 3 children together in which John was an active and engaging father and mentor.
A loving and devoted father, John, was always involved in his children’s lives, encouraging the passions and pursuits of his children as they grew. John was a natural farmer and caretaker, particularly in raising cattle but also White Persian kittens and Border Collie puppies. John spent his life living it to the fullest with his wife and family. John enjoyed many activities from going boating in the summer to watching fireworks and attending tractor pulls. John and Lucille created countless lasting memories during his life on many trips to including frequent trips to Clear Lake and vacations to Washington to visit their daughter, Kayleen and her family. John and Lucille traveled much closer to home later in life becoming well known by the staff at the Iowa Falls McDonald’s location.
John passed along many skills to in his life not only to his children but his grandchildren as well including his love for farming, animals and his passion for caring for them both. He and his wife Lucille shared this great passion and encouraged their children and grandchildren to be active members in 4-H and FFA creating lasting memories and carrying on their values for generations to come.
John Jerry leaves behind his children; Kenneth (Dailene) Abbas, Karen (Greg) Libenguth, Kayleen (Rick) Blair. Eight cherished grandchildren; Kendall (Cathy Koch), Dalen (Jenna), Trent, Alexis (Nic Hooker), Katarina (Bradey Wyles), Robbie, Kendrick, and Kari. John also was gifted in his life with two great-grandchildren Addilynn and Hazen. John was proceeded in death by his loving wife Lucille, his parents and siblings.
A visitation in John’s honor will take place on August 12th, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg, Iowa. This will be followed by a funeral service with lunch and family burial services to follow.
John Jerry Abbas will be deeply missed by his family and friends, whose lives he touched through his kindness, warmth, and unyielding love. May he rest in peace with our Lord.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Cedar Valley Hospice.
