John Franklin Adcock, Jr. A Warrior for "Life" Itself
John Adcock, 79, polio survivor, quick witted humorist and respected professional died October 4, 2025, at his home in Granbury, Texas. Contracting polio at 2 ½ years of age, Scottish-Right Hospital in Dallas, Texas became his (second) home for the next 14 years. Enduring many "Frankenstein surgeries", as he called them, he learned to walk with braces and crutches. He left at age 14 to create a very successful newspaper route business that enabled him to buy his first car in the 7th grade. After graduating in 1969 from North Texas State University, he began work as Personnel Director for GTE (later Verizon). TRW (part of Northup Gruman) offered him the position of Vice-President of Personnel in the DFW area. His family settled in Bedford, Texas. In 1989 Johnny was diagnosed with Post Polio Syndrome. A little-known disease at the time, it had an insatiable appetite for his remaining muscles.
An avid deer hunter, he enjoyed his camaraderie with friends and old cronies at his West Texas deer lease.
John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Diane; son Judd Adcock (late wife, Karisa); daughter, Jill Adcock; grandchildren, Hannah Adcock Sawyer, Caroline Adcock, Brett Adcock, Chandler Polk and Madeline Polk; great-grandchildren, Riott Polk, Max Windsor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Adcock, Sr. and Jo Laverne Adcock.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm. on Sunday, October 12th, 2025, at the Wiley Center in Granbury with burial to follow at Granbury Cemetery.
