John R. "Pete" Agnello, age 88 of Erie, passed away on January 5, 2026.

He was born in Erie on June 19, 1937 a son of the late John S. and Anna C. (Hickel) Agnello.

John was a 1955 graduate of McDowell High School and 1971 graduate from Gannon University with a BS degree in Business Administration.

Following high school, he served in the US Air Force for four years, stationed in California and England.

He worked several years in the family construction business John S. Agnello & Son; the Erie Public Library; Cafaro Development; Huber Hunt & Nichols; the Limited Inc. and 34 years as the Manager of the Fairview Township Sewer and Water Authorities. After retirement he worked part time for Erie Restoration Inc.

He loved working in his yard, taking rides with his wife and following his children and grandchildren in their activities; watching movies and taking care of his various cars and model trains.

Actively working with the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Association (PMAA), serving on the Annual Conference Committee; served on the Board of Directors as Director of Region 8 for three 3-year terms and served as the Chairman of the Board of the Unemployment Compensation Trust. He was honored by PMAA with the Red Davis Award, and along with his wife, Jan, received the William H. Marcus Award in 2018.

John was an active member of the Girard Athletic Boosters for over 25 years, holding many Board positions.

Currently a member of St. Jude Parish. Had previously been an active member of St. John's Parish in Girard and Holy Cross in Fairview.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, David and Frank Agnello.

He is survived by his wife, Janice "Jan" Sample Agnello, his high school sweetheart, whom he married 67 years ago on September 20, 1958, his children, daughter Michelle Kamppi (Mark); sons Daniel (Christine); Michael (Denise); Patrick (Christine); and Todd (Heather). His grandchildren, Jason Kamppi, Emily Taylor (Brendan), Anthony (Caitlin) Agnello, Samantha Agnello, Austin (Haley) Agnello, Sarah Bosch (Beau), Jillian and Sam Agnello, Logan and Alex Agnello, Nick (Brooke) Unger, Katlyn Scheppegrell (Andrew), and Jordan Jerek. 5 great grandchildren, Jackson, Julian, Forrest and Cooper Taylor and Johnny Bosch, a sister, Jennie Agnello of Girard and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Monday at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc 2502 Sassafras St from 3 pm until 7 pm and are invited to the Funeral Mass at St. Jude Church on Tuesday at 10 am. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com

Inurnment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Erie Humane Society or Julia Hospice House Project.

John was a loving husband, father, and Papa. He will be greatly missed by all of his family but we are assured because of his love for Jesus, he is forever dancing on streets of gold.
