John C. Alexander, age 91, of Northville, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2026, at StoryPoint-Novi.
John was born in Detroit in 1934 and graduated from Mackenzie High School in 1952. He attended Wayne State University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. John married Karen in 1961, and they moved to Northville in 1974, spending 52+ years in the same home.
In his first professional role with the City of Detroit, he worked on expanding the water service infrastructure to reach the growing population. Throughout his professional career he also worked for J.F. Cavanaugh Co., Albert Kahn and Wade Trim. After he retired, John volunteered at the Northville Library and continued his lifelong hobby of woodworking.
John had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for his memorable one liners. He was a proud father, making sure to always attend his children's sporting events.
Some of John's other favorite pastimes were following the Detroit Tigers, auto racing, reading and enjoying as many Christmas cookies as he could fit on his plate.
He is preceded in death by his parents (John and Opal Alexander), his brother (Gary Alexander) and brother-in-law Carl Dey. He is survived by his wife Karen, sister MaryAnn Dey, his children Kevin, Kathy (Jim) and Stephen (Elizabeth), and grandchildren Sloane, Alex and Cassidy.
