John N. Allen, age 77, of Farina, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Pagel Funeral Homes in Edgewood with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be at Iola Cemetery. Memorials may go to Shriners, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Homes for Our Troops, or the donor's choice.
John was born on April 13, 1946 in Salem, Illinois, the son of Burl and Virginia (Sprouse) Allen. He married Linda Fritts on December 8, 1976. John was a member of the Edgewood American Legion Post#1168. He served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1974. He worked in the oilfields and was a truck driver for several years. John and his son Bud owned and operated B&J Lawn Care for 7 years.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Allen of Farina; son, John N Allen II of Effingham; daughters, Melissa Allen of Effingham, Shari Hall (Jim Phillips) of Mason, and Jenita Colclasure (Bart Casseday) of Farina; brothers, Bob Allen of Farina and Bill Allen (Debbie Motte) of Mattoon; sisters, Brenda Sowers (Bruce) of Mason and Joyce Aryes of Caseyville; 7 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burl and Virginia Allen and son, Gerald "Bud" Colclasure.
