John David "Dave" Angerer Sr.

John David "Dave" Angerer, Sr., age 80, of Hockessin, DE passed peacefully after a lengthy illness on October 13, 2022, at Cokesbury Village.

Dave was born in Columbus, Ohio to Dr. Clifford A. Angerer and Helena Hurley Angerer. He graduated from North High School in Columbus in 1959 and Ohio State University in 1963 with a B.S. in chemistry. Dave went on to earn his PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1968 before embarking upon a career in research and development with Hercules Inc. He worked for Hercules for 27 years, retiring in 1995 as a director of R&D. Dave then spent the next seven years as a consultant for DCV, and he was a member of the American Chemical Society. Dave's passion was singing, and he was a member of the Northern Delaware Oratorio Society, the New Ark Chorale, and the St. Barnabas Church Choir. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a longtime active member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.

In addition to his love of music and singing, Dave pursued multiple other interests. He loved to read, travel with his wife (to many foreign destinations), all things related to Philadelphia sports (especially the Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers), and his many pugs.

Dave is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Angerer of Hockessin, DE; daughters Mary Ellen Arthurs (Pat) of King George, VA and Kathryn Barton (Sean) of Media, PA; son Rev. Jay Angerer (Lisa) of New Orleans, LA; grandchildren P.J., Shannon, and Jacob Arthurs, and Renee and Cole Angerer; 2 great-grandchildren and his brother Dr. Robert Angerer (Pamela).

A service will be held on Saturday, November 5 at 11 am at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 2800 Duncan Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808 with an Interment in the church memorial garden following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to St. Barnabas or the Ronald McDonald House, 1901 Rockland Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803.
