John C. Bartoszek

John C. Bartoszek, of Sturgeon Bay, WI, passed away on April 30, 2025. Diagnosed with stage 4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma on November 20, 2017, he faced the disease with courage and determination as it metastasized throughout his body, ultimately claiming his life.
John was born on December 15, 1948, in Minneapolis, MN, to John and Beulah Bartoszek. On June 21, 1975, he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Carol Viste. They were just weeks away from celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Together, they were blessed with a wonderful family and built a life full of love and dedication.
John proudly served in the United States Coast Guard, enlisting on May 13, 1968, and retiring on December 1, 1998. Following his military career, he continued his commitment to helping others, finishing his professional journey at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.
John will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandpa, papa, colleague, and friend. His warm heart, steady presence, and quiet strength touched the lives of all who knew him.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Viste Bartoszek; his children, Michelle and Michael (Katie); grandchildren, Nora, Annika, Dylan, and Nicole; step-grandchild, Lailah; and sister, Joanne Novak. He is also survived by in-laws Mary (Joseph) Hopkins, George (Sheryl) Viste, Jan Chapman, Thomas Horowicki and Geno Owczynski; as well as godchildren, nieces, nephews, and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Beulah Bartoszek; siblings Joyce Owczynski, Pauline (James) Tyrrell, and Victoria Horowicki; and in-laws Kenneth and Edith Viste, and Dr. Kenneth M. Viste Jr.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Bay View Lutheran Church, 340 West Maple Street, Sturgeon Bay, on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life service with military honors at 11:00 am. The service will include a Masonic tribute and U.S. Coast Guard Honor Guard. A luncheon will immediately follow the service, and burial will be in the Tanum Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in John's honor. Forbes Funeral Home is assisting the family.
